And now for something completely different... Hello, I'm Tom. There's only one thing I really need in life, but it's also the hardest and rarest thing to find. The odds are stacked against anyone looking for true love, but only a fool would give up trying. I still believe that everybody's got somebody somewhere. Somewhere out there is a woman who can fill my spirit and whose spirit I can fill in return; who will be content to know that I think she is beautiful, and who will likewise make me feel like the man I know I am inside; in whose arms I will feel the peace of a true home, and who will feel the same peace in mine; who will look forward to being with me, as I look forward to being with her; who will be my servant, my equal, and my ruler. Of course, I realize this is all very heavy stuff. and maybe even a little scary when a stranger is describing it. I know there's lots of casual dates and ordinary conversations to enjoy before all that heavy stuff, but I thought it would be best to put my cards on the table. Maybe I should rattle off some of the more mundane details... I'm a freelance web designer and I record original music for fun. I enjoy wild places and communing with Nature through hiking, camping, motorcycling, or just taking some time to visit the lake. I'm great with kids, and I try to take an active role in raising my nieces. I love to laugh. I have a thirst for knowledge and philosophy and I like to think that I'm smarter than the average bear. Those who really get to know me closely know that I'm a caring and compassionate person, and a rock to depend on. I'm passionate about my work and my art, but above everything else I am passionate about doing Right in the face of Wrong. I really believe in the ideas expressed in songs like Imagine and All You Need Is Love. A good relationship inspires me to express myself romantically in ways that I hope aren't too cliché. I like old progressive rock from the '70s (Genesis, Yes, Rush), older pop music (Beatles, Kinks), and college radio pop music (Peter Bjorn & John, The Smiths, Vampire Weekend). My mom was a music teacher who raised me on lots of classical music. The Pabst Theater is still my favorite place to see a show. But really, I like almost all kinds of music. If it makes a good sound and isn't utterly boring tripe, I'll probably like it. My favorite movies are the ones that engage my brain and have something to say, most recently Benjamin Button, Watchmen, and Yes Man. My all-time favorites include A River Runs Through It, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Life of Brian, and Superman. The books I'm reading now are When They Severed Earth From Sky: How the Human Mind Shapes Myth; The Man Who Would Be King and Other Short Stories by Rudyard Kipling; Showdown At Yellow Butte by Louis L'Amour; and Plato's Timaeus and Critias dialogues. On TV, I like House, Lost, Rachel Maddow, the Daily Show, Bill Maher, Adult Swim, the History Channel, Discovery, IFC, Monty Python, The Kids In the Hall, and The Prisoner.
